56 EMS/MXMWSA

BRK has a tremendous affinity for the airman of the US Air Force. He was proud to serve for ten years before leaving for green pastures with Mrs BRK at NASA. Electronic Warfare, Signals Intelligence, Communications Intelligence, and Defensive Electronic Countermeasures were his specialties. He was lucky enough to be part of the U-2 program in England, Saudi Arabia, and California, the ALQ-184 pod for F-16s in Japan, and a final stint in Air Force Special Forces. So when we at the BRK Aerospace Research Center’s Tool Crib and Snack Bar receive an email from an airman at Luke AFB, we’re duty-bound to reply.

Someday BRK will tell his story of how he received an Air Force Achievement Medal and a Letter of Reprimand for the same incident, but for now:

“How Do We Write Macros”

Instead of reinventing the wheel, there is a very nice, simple text tutorial at WoW Info that I’m going to cut-and-paste here:

Type /macro, /m, or click on the Macros button in the Main Chat Menu. A box will appear with your current macros. You should have no macros to start.

Click on “New” at the bottom of that box. Another box will pop up, with a place to enter the macro name and a choice of an icon for the macro.

You can select the tabs at the top to pick whether your macro will be a general macro for all of your characters or a macro just for your specific character.

Name your macro. Select a name that will make sense to you when you see it again. For example, “Assist”.

Select an icon. Let’s pick a sword.

Select “Okay” – You should now see the icon you selected (sword) along with your icon name in your current macros box (assist).

Now Left-Click on the assist icon to highlight it. There is a button there to change the name or icon for your macro if you later decide to rename it or select a different icon.

Once your assist icon is highlighted, move your mouse pointer into the “Enter Macro Commands” box. This is where you can type what you want the button to do when you press it. You will need to add a “/” in front of the command, if it is a slash command, just as you would enter in your text entry box.

Type “/Assist Nebu”.

Move your mouse pointer back over the sword icon (assist) and left-click and hold down the button over the icon.

Now, drag the icon over to an empty slot on your action bar.
To use your new macro icon, press the number associated with that action button, or right-click on the button itself.

You now have a macro button that will assist another player (Nebu) in their attack. When Nebu attacks a player or monster, press your Assist macro button and you will automatically select the same target Nebu is attacking.

When you are done editing or creating macros, click the “x” in the top right-hand side of the box to close the macro window.

I hope that gets you started, Airman. Someday when you’re in charge of Swing Shift, remember that the order to, “Get all your work done and get it done right, and you can go home early,” is the best motivational speech you can give.

Edit: Mrs Damh’s first reaction after reading this post was, “Why didn’t you mention my Joan Orr Spouse of the Year Award?” I said, “Because you lost at the PACAF competition to a colonel’s wife and BRK doesn’t roll with losers.” BRK is currently nursing a few broken fingers, so posts this weekend shall be fewer than normal.

Impressive. And a salute to you. I come from an airforce family yet broke tradition and did not join. My grandfater was a Senior Master Sergeant and was in the force for 31 years. Thanks for being a part of the forces.

Fun fact: my ex husband is in the Air Force, and I lived on Elmendorf AFB for a couple years while we were married. He was part of the AWACS maintenance squadron there (often working Swing Shift), though he’s now stationed in some-Dakota-or-other doing lord knows what, lol.

I often considered enlisting myself after the divorce, but opted not to due to some knee problems that suggested to me I likely wouldn’t make it through Basic (particularly not Warrior Week, rofl!)

    Small world, eh?

And to Mrs Damh: is it just me, or are most the PACAF wives total cows? =/

Thank you for the post and the salute. I know exactly what you mean about swing shift currently I am in a shop that is 24/7 except on weekends so there is no leaving early. I myself am on Mid shift and am often called A.I.C. Airman In Charge. A little since i am the only Airman on shift.LoL. Also is Joan Orr the spouse to Col. David Orr if so he is currently second in command out here at Luke, so and even smaller world.

I keep coming back here from time to time, but it wasn’t until I was going through your articles one by one did I realize you were a former Airman. It’s good to see a good Intel guy playing, and a Hunter at that! You just gained +10 points in my book, although I don’t think I’m authorized to give you BRK points. Meh.

I’m an Intel geek as well, an Imagery Analyst. Your school house in Tech must have been right next to mine in Texas. I’ve also spent quite a bit of time at Beale as well with the Dragonladys. I’m in Reno now, though, as a X-coded 1N1, flying up in the air and looking through soda straws.

Anyhow, just thought I’d say hello, and that I love your site and articles.

Well I just had to leave a message here after reading how you and many others were in the Air Force. I’m currently Security Forces workin at BFE Minot ND. My little sis is also in working intel doing god knows what. I just wanted to say this is about the best blog i’ve read. I’m a Beastmaster hunter on the warhammer server working my first character up to 70 and you have been a real help on my quest to get there. Thanks

Stumbled accros your bloga and reading down your list of posts and see one at the top with 56 EMS.
Im stationed at luke now in the Comm Sq and that really caught my eye. Good to hear that you were able get a good job after seperating. They always say its a small Air Force.

Have a great Air Force Day!

P.S. How the hell did you recieve an LOR and an Acheivement medal for the same incident?

First the hunter info, then the John Cox art (I love Cox and Forkum), and now, I find out you’re a fellow AF parolee???? /sniff, /sniff, I think I’m going to cry….

I have come out of the great unwashed MM huntards group and respecced last night, using your guide. I have been playing MM since I started in Dec ‘06 and thought that was the biggest, baddest DPS to be had. I have seen the Hunter’s Mark and been saved from my ignorance.

Thanks for spreading the good news, BRK. I now have a BRK of my own – PuddyTat.

(the one on Baelgun – the Spinebreaker thing was just a little diversion….heh heh….)

  8. Wraithcat Says:

    Ahh…

How sweet it is to find all the fairies fluttering about in the same wonderfully green and sented grove!! :-)

As for me, I drove tanks for a few years before transfering into Psychology…

    Well done again BRK!!

BTW, I’ve been looking for something on races for hunters, but haven’t seen anything. Do you have any opinions there?

  9. Greenyone Says:

Thanks BRK for the great plethora of knowledge here. I have a 67 Troll Hunter on Staghelm. All those little annoying issues I’ve had since playing and have had to learn the hard way, are all here… where anyone can learn before all the swearing and late nights drinking.
Also wanted to say thanks for your service to country. If it wasn’t for zoomies like you, I wouldn’t have had the pleasure of getting kicked out the door of a bird for 3 years as Airborne Infantry.
Thanks again for all the info and heads-up.

  10. Jerry Says:

I am ex-Navy – Electronics Warfare Technician. I play a hunter and I salute you.

    I am a tanker too,

I learnt to drive it, speech commands to my men but primarily, I’m the gunner of the tank.

    Salute.

And yes i have 2 lvl70 hunters coz i love hunters..
